Description

You've got a story to tell, but how do you make it compelling and unique? What separates outstanding writing, the kind that moves us as readers, from generic storytelling? In this class, local writer and editor Adam Rhew will provide guided instruction as we read successful personal writing, discuss our own, and spend time thinking creatively about words and how to publish them. You'll walk away with a better understanding of what makes a compelling narrative, strategies to apply to your own writing, examples of outstanding work, and (optional) feedback about your own project.

Materials

Please bring a laptop, pen, and paper to this class. As an option, students are welcome to submit a copy of their work-in-progress, up to 10 pages double-spaced, for Adam to provide feedback on before class. If you'd like to partake in this, please send your work to info@skillpop.com a minimum of 72 hours before class.

Who Should Take This Class?

The ideal student for this class understands the basic elements of writing and has a good grasp on grammar, spelling, and style. You don't need a long list of published work, but you do need endless curiosity, a desire to push yourself, and a sense of creativity. Students who have a story they want to tell will get the most out of this class, but the concepts will resonate with anyone seeking to improve their personal writing.
