American Sign Language for Beginners

Due to the interactive structure of this class, this class is a ‘live only’ class and a replay will NOT be provided after the class.

Join American Sign Language instructor, Joshua Sherk, as he introduces you to the language and culture of deaf people in the United States. In this class, you will learn specific language and cultural behaviors, and the grammar of ASL. This class will focus on both expressive and receptive skills, with a major emphasis placed on receptive skills. You will take part extensively in interactive classroom activities using the “Voices Off” policy to ensure ASL immersion. By the end of class, you will have the basic skills of American Sign Language that you can use right in your own community!

This interactive class will be held on Zoom. To get the most out of the class we recommend joining from a laptop/desktop, having your camera on, and your preferred method of note taking ready for class. Live session attendance is required due to the interactive structure of class. A replay will NOT be provided.

This class is perfect for anyone interested in learning the basics of American Sign Language. No prior experience is required.
